Some of the waves at trestles were well overhead as shown
above. Savannah insisted that Point Mugu's smaller waves
were much more challenging than the crowded Trestle's peaks.
Getting forth in my first heat behind Carissa
Moore and her Hawaiian team mate
was disappointing but my coach seemed to think highly of
my efforts and I got to meet and surf against one of my
surf heroes. Carissa is not only an awesome surfer, but
she's a very together person too, having time to spend on
the beach with everyone and thinking of others and not herself,
she seemed genuinely interested in where I was from and
what I did. I also surfed with Bethany Hamilton,
many of you remember her as the girl who lost her arm to
a Tiger shark in Hawaii a couple of years back. I don't
understand how she surfs so well, it's a miracle!
Heading Back to Mugu for Tube Time
Well, it wasn't long before everyone wanted
to head back to Point Mugu and take another
whack at the big barrels of fun and liquid ecstasy a few
hours north. The waves just kept getting bigger and better
at Mugu as the Southern Hemisphere heated up with storm
activity. [big Mugu]
