Satellite Beach NSSA Contest

Satellite Beach NSSA Contest

On Saturday, February 29, the Satellite Beach NSSA contest was held at Pelican Park. I was a little nervous about the contest and how I would surf cause I had been sick earlier in the week and didn't feel my full self, but I was ready to catch some fun waves after not being able to really surf for a couple days. I was also nervous because this would be my first contest to drive to alone now that I have my license (AHHHHHH!) It wasn't all that bad though just a really boring twenty minute drive by myself. I arrived safely and was stoked to find the waves were a playful size of 2 - 3 ft. and semi glass but kinda mushy. It would be perfect waves to warm up in. I had two good free surf sessions while waiting for my heat. What was really cool though was that it was extremely low tide and there were these huge rocks coming out of the water half way out to the break. You could swim out to these rocks and jump across them for a couple miles down the beach if you wanted to, but me and my friends only went a couple hundred yards or so. It was fun to see how long we could stand on the rocks without getting knocked over by waves (we had some pretty hilarious incidents). Finally my heat came up at the very end of the day and by that time the waves weren't exactly something to write home about, but they were still surfable. I caught a few fun ones with some hits and little white water climbs but that was about all. I ended up getting second in my open women's heat so I was glad to get that especially since I hadn't been feeling the greatest a couple days before. It was a super great day at the beach and I made it home safely as well (I'm starting to get the hang of driving by myself but still beware when I'm on the roads). I think I might even go back to Satellite beach soon just to jump across the rocks if there is no surf.
