First Light Surfing at Patrick Airforce Base Florida
First light is also known as OC
or Officer's Club at Patrick Airforce
Base in East Central Florida's Brevard
County. The O'Club burnt down after/during
one of the hurricanes last year and I'm not sure if they are
gonna build again.
The surf at 1st light can be fabulous when it's firing (like
many breaks), but is mostly known as a longboard
hangout because of the long lines and mellowness. Don't get
me wrong, O'Club can really get good, but it's neighbor 2ndlight
or the further south RC's is usually
a hollower and faster break.
The morning pictured on this page was on May 3, 2006 during
a classic 3-4 foot day before school. I almost didn't make
class on time and debated about asking dad for a tardy day
at school. If I would have had more time I think I would have
gone to RC's on this day... I
heard it was a foot bigger and barreling bigger. I love those
green Florida tube rides and 1st light surely
has those to offer on a good swell.
